The Area
Kalyvia, is a small village built at the foot of Mount Kantili, in a pine-covered natural environment. Its inhabitants are mainly engaged in livestock farming and agriculture. Nearby are Mantoudi and Prokopi.
Prokopi
Prokopi belongs to the Kireos Part of the municipality Madoudi-Limni-Agia Anna and is located in a beautiful landscape of pines and plane trees.
In its centre is a great church which was built to house the relics of St John the Russian, a miracle-working saint, whose body is preserved in its entirety and can be seen in the church within a magnificent silver reliquary.
The relics of the Saint were carried by Greek refugees from the village of Prokopi in Asia Minor when during the 1922 exchange of populations between Turkey and Greece they were forced to move to their new home in Evia which they named Prokopi after their home village.
Thousands of believers from all over Greece and also from abroad flock to Prokopi all through the year to pray, to honour and petition the Saint.
Prokopi has located 35 km away Limni.
